Downtown Lewiston and the riverfront

Downtown sits near the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater rivers, at roughly 740 to 780 feet, the lowest part of the city. A system of levees along much of the Snake River protects this area from flooding.

The old commercial center at the west end of Main Street is the Lewiston Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, with buildings from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Its boundaries were later expanded.

What that means for gutter work downtown

Older commercial buildings like those in the historic district often have parapet walls and low-slope roofs, with roof water leaving through scuppers and conductor heads instead of hanging gutters. Where sidewalks run right up to the walls, downspouts that discharge onto the walk become an ice hazard in winter. Our commercial gutter page covers that kind of building. Normal Hill

The oldest housing of the neighborhoods we profile, with a typical home built in 1938. Gutter work here usually means old trim, older gutter systems, and period-appropriate half-round.
The Orchards and South Central Orchards

The residential plateau above the city, mostly owner-occupied single-family homes from the 1970s on. The airport weather station is up here, so the climate figures on this site describe it directly.
Thain Road

A main route that climbs about 250 feet onto the plateau, with older homes at the lower end and Orchards neighborhoods at the top. Sloped lots make downspout placement matter.
Echo Hills

A west-side hillside neighborhood with more apartments and duplexes than the city average, where drainage has to be planned around falling ground.
